Delhi government decides Rs 1 crore compensation to families of doctors died on COVID-19 duty

Delhi government has decided to accord the “Corona Warrior” status to a National Health Mission doctor who had succumbed to COVID-19 recently. The government will also give his family Rs 1 crore compensation. On Wednesday, Health minister Satyendar Jain said that Dr Javed Ali, 42 years had contracted the coronavirus infection while on duty and died on Tuesday due to it.

Chief minister Arvind Kejriwal had met the family members of Dr Aseem Gupta (52) earlier this month, who also died in June while fighting against COVID-19. Kejriwal had handed over a cheque of Rs 1 crore as ex gratia payment to his family members. So far, more than 1.26 lakh people have tested positive for coronavirus and out of them over 2,000 are healthcare workers.

On Wednesday, 1,227 fresh cases were recorded in Delhi. State health authorities said that 29 patients died in the past 24 hours. At present, there are 14,954 active cases i.e.12% of the total number of cases reported till now. A senior health department official said that many patients had mild symptoms and were recovering during home quarantine. Only 3,342 patients had been hospitalized. Many COVID-designated beds are still vacant. 

The positivity rate has also reduced to 6%. The officials also said that the combined effort of all the departments functioning to manage the coronavirus pandemic has been successful in halting the further spread of the disease.
